Dig Deeper: The Rich Heritage of Saint-Emilion

Saint Emilion's story dates back to Roman times, gaining prominence in the 8th century with the arrival of the monk Emilion. His legacy turned the village into a religious hub, shaping its character and name.

The village's wine heritage is equally impressive, with centuries-old traditions producing some of the world's finest wines.

The unique soil composition of limestone and clay in the Saint-Emilion wine region plays a pivotal role in the quality of its Merlot grapes. These conditions yield wines that are as rich in history as they are in flavor.

    1. Château Le Châtelet: Grand Cru Classé - One of our favorites, located on the limestone plateau, produces great Saint-Emilion wines and this family owned property knows how to welcome all its guests in a special way.

    2. Château Bellefont Belcier: Grand Cru Classé - Part of the vignobles K properties, a unique location close to Château Pavie and some great Saint-Emilion wines. What we like here is that you can also taste wines from other vignobles K properties.

    4. Château Grangey: Grand Cru - Family owned winery located in Saint Christophe des Bardes area that produce a delicated Saint-Emilion wine since they took over in 2012. A smaller operation that will allow you to get a detailed explanation of the wine making and ageing process, followed by a commented tasting with one of the owners.

    5. Château Coutet: Grand Cru - A family owned winery since the 1600's! The 14th generation of the David Beaulieu family will welcome you to their estate for a visit of the technical installations, followed by a unique wine tasting session of their Saint-Emilion wines.
