Program & Itinerary
Begin your tour in the Alsace region
Come and discover one of the most fascinating regions of France through one of our exclusive regional tours. Alsace, unlike the other French Regions, abounds in both French and German influences. Most of the population speaks French with a decided German accent, the cuisine is an able blend of French and German cooking, many of the towns of the region have German names and the village architecture delights in a pronounced Germanic influence.
A visit to this region is always a delightful experience. This private package has been designed to make you discover the history, culture, food and wines through carefully chosen visits that combine the most significant sights to off the beaten path locations that only a private tour will permit.
Then reach the Burgundy region of France
The centuries-old tradition of Burgundy wine making is evident in the bountiful vineyards stretching across the landscape. Burgundy boasts some of the most acclaimed and luxurious wines in the world. The capital, Dijon, is a flourishing cultural hub, where visitors can step back into the past with its mix of Gothic and art deco architecture.
If wine is not your priority, Burgundy offers a multitude of sightseeing options, such as the Palace of the Dukes, the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Bénigne, the Romanesque churches of Burgundy, including the remarkable Abbaye de Vézelay (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Les Hospices de Beaune, a medieval hospital that was in use until the 20th century and now functions as a museum of Flemish art.
Whether you´re eager to sample Burgundy wines and discover what makes them some of the world´s most famous, wander the medieval streets and uncover Burgundy´s historical secrets, or a combination of both, Ophorus provides tours to meet every traveler´s need. Enjoy the attention of our professional, English-speaking guides and let us help you experience the best this region has to offer.

Afternoon Alsace Villages & Wines private tour
Taste Some of the Most Interesting Wines of Alsace
Depart for a half-day afternoon tour along the Alsace wine route to discover some of the most fascinating wines of France. Renowned for its aromatic white wines, the Alsace wine region is ideally suited with its dry and sunny climate, complex geology, favorable soils and excellent exposure.
During this half-day wine tasting tour from Strasbourg, you will taste wine in 2 different wineries. As you experience a tasting session, learn about the 7 different types of Alsace wines. Local grape varieties include Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Muscat to name the most famous.
Or Visit Some of the Most Authentic Alsace Villages
This small group half-day trip to authentic Alsace villages heads towards the Northern Alsace Wine Route. As you drive along this scenic Route, you will reach some of the most beautiful villages located in the area that are surrounded by vineyards.
One of your first stops will certainly be the village of Barr. This superb Alsace village that has retained parts of its medieval walls, was located on the salt route. Unknown from many tourists, it is one of our preferred destinations.
Since it is located off the beaten tracks, the limited number of visitors make it a real treat if you want to get the real feel of Alsace. Its well preserved historical city center is dotted with a great number of traditional flower decked half timbered houses located along the twisted cobbled streets.
Other great options that your guide can include are the villages of Mittelbergheim – with its Rue Principale, Gothic Churches and geranium covered walls or Andlau and its famous abbey that dates back to the 9th century.
Combine The Two Options
This option enables you to mix and match according to your preferences. Your guide will be happy to adapt the tour to your wishes and suggest the best possible options depending on your choices.
We highly recommend that you send us a note suggesting what your preferences would be, but a small chat with your guide before the departure of the tour will be the best way for you to really indicate what you would like to do during this private half day tour of Alsace region from Strasbourg.
After the tour, return to Strasbourg.Read moreRead less -

Then depart for the most beautiful village of Eguisheim, located on the Alsace wine route. Surrounded by vineyards, the narrow and concentric streets highlight the architectural merits of its half-timbered houses, lovingly decorated with flowers. After a walk in the village your tour then continues on to the beautiful town of Riquewihr.
Visit Riquewihr and time for lunch (at own expense)
Surrounded by ramparts, the village has been very fortunate to survive war and destruction. Its tiny streets, fortified walls and old houses have preserved their 16C splendor virtually intact, making for remarkable architectural harmony. Free time for personal discovery and lunch.
Enjoy great Panoramic Views along the Alsace Wine Route
Located between the Rhine valley and the Vosges mountain range, the 60 year old route winds across the slopes for more than 170 kms. The itinerary leads across rows of undulating, vine covered hills, and through quaint villages with narrow streets and charming flower decked houses clustered around the local church steeple.
Visit the Mighty Castle of Haut Koenigsbourg
Finally, reach Haut Koenigsbourg castle. Here, follow your excellent guide for a tour of this mighty fortress that overlooks the valley. Built in the 12th century, the Castle occupied a strategic position controlling the wine and wheat routes to the North and the salt route that came from the East. In the morning we will come and pick you up at your centrally located accommodation in Strasbourg. Meet your English speaking driver guide who will go over the itinerary and program of this private day tour from Strasbourg. Then board your air conditioned vehicle, cross the Rhine River and begin to make your way to Southern Germany.
Baden Baden, a spa town, is located on the western foothills of the Black Forest, on the banks of the Oos River, in the region of Karlsruhe. During the 19th century, the town rose to become a meeting place for celebrities attracted by the hot springs, as well the luxury hotels, the horse races and the gardens of the Lichtentaler Allee.
Discover this fascinating town that still retains some of the most well preserved architectural delights dating from the “Belle Epoque” period. Follow your guide on a walking tour in the city and enjoy some free time for personal discovery and lunch.
In the afternoon, depending on your preferences, you will follow the famous Badische wine route and head towards the Black Forest and follow the “Hochstrasse” to admire some of the most breathtaking landscapes of the region.
The Black Forest & the Schwartzwald Hochstrasse
The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 meters (4,898 feet). The name Black Forest comes from the general dark color of the numerous pine trees that grow in this region.
Black Forest gateau and cuckoo clocks originate from this region. The Black Forest Route (Schwartzwald Hochstrasse) is the oldest, and one of the best known, themed drives in Germany. A long time ago this road was used to transport logs. Today, it is one of the most popular routes for tourists because of the beauty of its scenery, landscape, traditional villages and the breathtaking views of the mountains.
The Badische Winestrasse
The Baden wine route stretches for 160 kilometers along the western edge of the Black Forest, from Baden-Baden in the north to Weil am Rhein in the south, and in an additional loop around the areas of Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg.
The vineyard covers 15,500 hectares making it the 3rd largest in Germany. In Baden, red and white wines of great repute flourish. The Blaue Spätburgunder dominates in the category of red wines, while in the category of white wines it is the Müller-Thurgau.
With regard to the other varieties, each winegrower typically specializes in the regional wine: the Riesling is mostly at home in Ortenau, the Markgräflerland is the land of Gutedel and Burgunder-wines like the Ruländer (Pinot gris) and Weißburgunder (Pinot blanc) are mainly cultivated in Breisgau, Kaiserstuhl or Tuniberg.
