Sanary-sur-Mer Travel Guide (Provence, France)
The fishing village of Sanary-sur-Mer is a popular seaside resort located in the Provence region of France between the village of Bandol and the town of Toulon. The fishing village was established in the 16th century under the patronage of Saint Nazari of which the village took its name. Later transformed into Sant Nari, it was finally contracted into Sanari and in 1923 it gained its final name of Sanary-sur-Mer.
The main sites of the small town include a Romanesque Tower dating back to the 1300's, the Notre-Dame Chapel built in 1560 and Saint Nazari church that dates back to the late 19th century.
Other interesting attractions include the local & traditional wooden fishing boats known as "pointus" that make up a small fleet of Artisan fishermen, who sell their catch of the day every morning. The most beautiful beach of Sanary is called Portissol and is located within the town limits while the local Market is considered to be one of the most beautiful markets of Provence.
