Provence Lavender Full Day Tour

Wander into the lavender fields and take in the wonders of Provence on this full day Provence tour!

 In the morning, your driver will pick you up at the meeting point in Aix en Provence. From there, he will take you straight to the Valensole Plateau to begin your Provence full day tour from Aix en Provence. Valensole itself is a small charming traditional village. The real treat around here though is the hundreds of square kilometres on the plateau around Valensole covered in lavender fields, one of Provence’s most iconic plants. Everyone loves the fragrance of lavender, and it can be used for many purposes :

  • cooking ;
  • baking ;
  • as an air and linen freshener ;
  • in soaps or creams, and much more.

Take in the wonderful views of the purple fields around you and take this opportunity to take a lot of iconic pictures of your surroundings. The best time of the year to see lavender fields blooming is in July.

After the lavender fields, your Provence tour will take you to a traditional Provence market.

Mainly food stuff is sold and you will be able to find the freshest meat, fish, bread, fruit and vegetables there. Take this occasion to try some of the local products like olives or pan bagnat. We won’t tell you what this last one is… you will have to try it for yourself! Your guide will also explain to you how to choose quality produce and which Provence recipes you can make with them. Some prepared specialties can also be found on the markets. One of them is tapenade, made with pureed olives, capers and olive oil. It tastes delicious on a piece of bread! Other specialties include calissons, a candy made of candied fruit and almonds.

Your guide will also let you know the best spots to get some lunch or, if you prefer, you can buy food on the go directly at the market.

Finally, your full day tour from Aix en Provence will bring you to one of the natural wonders of the region, the Verdon canyon. Considered to be the most beautiful canyon in Europe, the Verdon canyon boasts dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters and small typical villages on its edges.  It is the result of thousands of years and truly is a unique sight in the Provence region.There is a road along the canyon allowing you to see most of it without having to trek. Still, you will have time to take short walks and stop to admire the breathtaking beauty of nature around you. If the time and weather allow, you may also want to take a dip in the water!

At the end of this Provence day tour, your driver will take you back to the meeting point in Aix en Provence.
