Take a leap back to the Renaissance times with a bubbly finish on this Loire Valley tour!

In the morning, depart from your hotel or at a meeting point of your choice in Amboise. The first stop of your  Loire Valley private day tour will be the Chenonceau castle. This castle is one of the most famous in the Loire valley, notably thanks to its two-story gallery standing over the Loire river. The first castle was built in 1513 by Catherine Briçonnet, a lady coming from a local family operating in finance at the time, on the ruins of a mill. After her death, the French administration discovered financial frauds carried out by her husband and decided to seize the castle, which thus became property of the crown.

François Ier, who was king at the time, left the castle to decay for the rest of his reign. However, his son, Henri II, gifted the Chenonceau castle to his mistress Diane de Poitiers. She would be the driving force behind the creation of the gardens. After Henri II’s death, her rival Catherine de Medici took the castle back and started a long process of renovations and embellishments. The castle and its gardens are extremely well preserved and are the perfect place to learn more about France during the Renaissance times.

At lunch time, your Loire Valley private tour will take you back to Amboise.

There, your guide will suggest the best places to go eat and will give you some free time to explore the city at your own pace. Wander around the historical centre and indulge into some local shopping.

The next step in this private Loire Valley tour will be the guided visit of the Amboise castle. Perched on top of a small hill, it overlooks the Loire river. During the Renaissance times, the castle has been the home of several French kings including Charles VIII and Louis XII. Those two kings significantly remodeled the old building to shape it into the castle we know today. However, the building was badly damaged during the French revolution and under the reign of Napoléon I. Nevertheless, the castle still offers a lot to see and will be a highlight of your Loire Valley private day  tour.

Before heading back home, you will have the privilege of experiencing a wine tasting in Vouvray.

The winery primarily makes sparkling wines that are typical of the Loire Valley region. Your guide will take you around the 15th century cellars, before the winemakers tell you all about their products and, of course, let you taste them.

This Loire Valley private tour departs from Amboise and drops you off at the same location in the evening. It can accommodate as many people as you need to. During your day out, you will enjoy a private vehicle with a chauffeur adapted to the size of your group, as well as a certified, English-speaking guide ready to answer all your questions.
