Savor a Range of Wines in this Exceptional Winemaking Region
Have you always wanted to savor a range of wines in the exceptional winemaking region of Burgundy? If the answer is yes, come with us on this Burgundy wine tour from Beaune! On this Exclusive shared wine tour from Beaune will first take you for a drive around the most scenic villages of the region. Some names may ring a bell already, as they are almost all home to great wines. While in Pommard and Volnay, our certified English-speaking guide will explain the differences between the different wine designations: Village, Premier Cru, Grand Cru.
This small group Burgundy wine tour departs in the morning from the Tourism Office. This shared tour provides a vehicle, as well as a certified, English-speaking guide who will stay with you all day long. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy your excursion while sipping on wine!
9.30am: Scenic drive through the beautiful villages of Pommard, Volnay and Meursault.
Welcome to the spirit of France. While we are in the vineyards we will give you a clear and entertaining presentation of the difference between the appellations “Village, 1er Cru and Grand Crus”. Here the Chardonnay is at its best!
10.30am: Tour and wine tasting at domain in Meursault.
The drive will lead you to the village of Meursault, where you will experience your first wine tasting session of the day. Meursault is most famous for its chardonnay wine, which you will be able to try out in an authentic Burgundy cellar. Red wine will also be on the menu, and you will be able to buy your favorite wine at the end!
12.30: Lunch at leisure in Meursault according to your guide’s recommendation.
Meursault will also be the place where your Burgundy wine tasting experience will stop for lunch. Your guide will show you the best addresses in town to get some traditional French food… paired with wine of course! After lunch, head back to Beaune through the vineyards for a visit of the famous Hospices. Beaune is the largest city and the de facto capital of the Burgundy region. As such, the city used to be a regional center where many social and commercial activities took place.
Guided tour of the Hospices of Beaune.
The Hospices de Beaune were built in the Middle Ages and were used as a hospital foundation for the poor for centuries. It is a beautiful display of Gothic art from Burgundy, and the most stunning feature of the buildings is certainly the iconic polychrome roofs. Along with your guide, walk around the beautifully preserved rooms, admire the historic Christian paintings and learn more about the history of France during the Middle Ages.
Typical example of Burgundy flamboyant gothic style, this former hospital founded in 1443 by the chancellor Nicolas Rolin and his wife Guigone de Salins is the testimony of the Flemish influence on the duchy of Burgundy. As far as architecture, it is worldwide famous for its colorful polychromatic glazed tile roofs. The Last Judgment triptych painting by Flemish painter Rogier Van Der Weyden is the highlight of the visit. You will tour the Salle des Pôvres (where the sick ones were looked after), the kitchens, the pharmacy and other rooms exhibiting artifacts and tapestries.
4.00pm: Tour and wine tasting at a local domain in Beaune.
While still in Beaune, your Burgundy day trip will take you to a second wine tasting session in a local vineyard. This intimate visit will allow you to learn directly from a winemaker who will reveal all the processes and techniques used to make Burgundy wine. Watch how a simple grape turns into one of the most appreciated beverages in the world. After the tour, you will be able to sample and taste several red and white wines.
