In the morning, meet your English speaking driver guide at your accommodation in Paris. At first, you will be introduced with your program and itinerary for this full day tour. The battle of the Somme are is on your program and highlights of this private tour include the Memorial at Villers Bretonneux, the Sir John Monash Center, the Lochnagar Crater at La Boisselle, the Thiepval Memorial as well as Beaumont Hamel Newfoundland Memorial.

The Australian National Memorial and Villers Bretonneux Cemetery

Depart in the morning on board your air conditioned vehicle and head towards the Somme area. After a drive of about 2 hours, we will reach our first stop: the Australian National Memorial at Villers Bretonneux military cemetery. The memorial commemorates the fallen Australian men of the 1st World War that totaled more than 10,000 men. After some time on site it will be time to visit the Sir John Monash Centre that has been designed to educate on the role of Australia on the Western Front.

Lochnagar Crater and Thiepval memorial

Then, reach the Lochnagar crater where your tour of the somme battle will continue. This unique site will help you understand what an underground explosive charge was about and the role of the Tunneling companies during the war. This will be followed by another stop at the Thiepval Memorial that commemorates more than 72,000 men of South African and British forces who perished in the Somme. It is the largest Commonwealth Memorial to the missing, in the world.

Newfoundland Memorial and War Historial in Péronne

Your tour guide will then take you to the Newfoundland Memorial Park that commemorates the Newfoundland forces (not yet part of Canada) that were killed during the first days of the Battle of the Somme. The site is one of the only places in the Western Front where one can see the trench lines of the Great War in a preserved natural state. Your day will then finish with some free time at the Great War Historial located in Péronne.

After the tour, return to Paris and end of our services.
